Seeing Big foot back in the early 80's here is something I will never forget! This was a great architectural land mark that should have been saved.
Saw some Awsome fights here over the years! I'm not talking about the players on the field, I'm talking about the spectators in the seats! During every lions game, you just needed to break out your binoculars, to observe all the Action in the seats! Some of the fights were better than the action on the field! The place was a Zoo,......Great Times!
Why 5 stars? Simple. It took not 1, but 2 implosions to almost take down this complex. It is no longer standing and at one time the Detroit Lions played here until Detroit came back with a fury. We will always remember the dome. Many gathered to watch her fall and she didn't budge after the first round of explosives detonated. There has been quite a few ideas as to what went wrong and they may have had merit had the second attempt not ended in the same way. A few days after the first go. More charges were set and and as another thunderous course of explosives brought the skirting and entrances down. The skeleton of framework remained. Kudos to that builder we wherever they are now!
I remember in 1987 wen wwf WrestleMania 3 was at the Pontiac Sliverdom one of the most popular WrestleMania events in the world History and still is off today
Will miss the dome. Lived off of Opdyke for years as a kid always could look in the distance and see it. Went to a monster truck jam when I was little and remember my dad taking us out the emergency exit and got blown out because of the air pressure. That was fun. A shame it had to go I will miss it and the memories!
